Speed, speed, speed... We all want speed. This wouldn't be an issue if we could all go out every 6 months and buy the top of the line home PC but it just doesn't make financial sense. There are some steps you can take to speed up your computer.
.) Clear you hard drive of unwanted files. Make sure to uninstall unused applications and remove old files such as documents, images,.mp3's and videos that you no longer need. Your hard drive does have a storage peak and bringing it to the brink will slow it down.
.) Defrag your hard drive once a month. Over time you hard drive writes new files and applications in scattered chunks, defragging your hard drive will regroup these files so it does not have to search in multiple places for the ones its searching for.
.) Clear you browsing history. Your browsing history is a place where files build up extremely fast. A file is saved there for every site you visit so when you click back you don't have to retype the address. This can take up a large amount of disk space so make sure clean it out regularly.
.) Clear you browser cache. Your browser cache hold files that contain website data such as images, html and media content and can grow faster than your browsing history files. Make sure to clean this as well or limit that amount of cache your browser can set aside.
.) Keep an eye on your startup folder. Your startup folder can house applications you don't even know exist and start automatically every time you log in so make sure to keep the items in this area to a minimum unless you want to wait 5 minutes before you can even open notepad!
.) Run a Windows error-checking utility once a week. Your hard drive can become easily corrupted and this can lead to major sluggish performance. By running this built in utility you can fix the problem areas and stave off the slow performance.
.) Run regular Windows updates. Windows updates can be set to run automatically and make sure your computer has the most recent patches and this can help keep you computer running smooth day in and day out.
.) Keep your drivers up to date. Drivers allow your hardware to communicate with your system and if the files that make them tick are outdated, or the files paths are corrupted your computer will spend time trying to resolve the issue.
.) Keep you registry clean. Your registry is you computers settings and configuration database and even a small error will affect overall performance. Make sure to run a registry cleaning software once or twice a month to maintain peak performance.
.) Hardware malfunctions. Make sure your hardware has all the necessary files it needs to run smoothly. Sometimes these files become corrupt or get overwritten by the file system for unexplained reasons and need to be replaced or fixed.
These simple steps can help to speed up your computer.
