Since its release, the Kindle has seen sales steadily increase and it has almost single handedly made the electronic book socially acceptable. It has spawned a massive marketplace for electronic books and most new releases are now available on the Kindle.
It is much easier to use and whilst there was an initial concern about how good reading on a Kindle was for eyes, experts are now saying the colors used are better for your eyes than black text on white (as in most printed books).
The ability to convert text to speech makes the Kindle very popular with people who struggle to read a book normally. It means that anyone can listen to any book available on a Kindle and someone who is severely vision impaired doesn't have to wait for an audio version or braille version. Admittedly it does sound like Stephan Hawkins is reading to you, but it's a quantum leap forwards in technology. Finally blind people have the opportunity to read books without needing someone that reads the book out loud to them.
You can also magnify the text in a Kindle which is a godsend for anyone who has found themselves gradually holding a book further and further away (or even closer) in order to clearly see the text. Being able to easily magnify the text again makes it easier for people to read without having to wait for a large print version to be released (if indeed it ever is).
These two features alone have opened up a massive new market of readers who are keen to get their hands on all of the latest books that they would otherwise miss out on.
The convenience in size and storage is another huge seller. Being able to carry around a library on this small device means that you can take hundreds of books on holiday without paying for excess baggage!
The Kindle has encouraged people to read for this very reason because it is easy to pick it up and start reading from the exact point you left off at. The Kindle is smart and will automatically bookmark the last page you were on when you stop reading.
Over the coming years we can expect to see Amazon add more features to the Kindle to make it easier for people to use and it will continue to grow in popularity. Kindle has become a household name now and more and more people own one.
