Xoom is an android iPad delivered by Motorola in partnership with Google. It uses Google's mobile operating system Honeycomb version 3 as its operating system. It definitely has rocked the market of tablet purchasers. The Xoom has proven to be a stiff contender. The Xoom is equipped with all the fancy and impressive new hardware and software including the one redesigned by Matthias Duarte. The features include 32 GB internal memory, nvidia tegra-2 based slate, ddr2 ram of 1 GB, 1 GHz processor, a capacitive display screen of ten point one inches, 3g capability, HD video facility, both rear and front facing cameras and a great deal of wireless choices.
The Xoom has a very competitive design and build. The Xoom can be upgraded to 4g network and hence this makes both the device and its market future proof. So obviously it comes at a hefty price of seven hundred and ninety nine American dollars which makes it an expensive bit of technology to possess, with all its formidable features and Google's software packed on the inside. The Xoom can boast to represent a whole new generation of tablet evolution. The design of the Xoom may be conventional as the usual tablet form of design cannot be done away with but it definitely has a handsome build. It has machined metal, curved corners and the front is covered totally by the giant screen. Design cannot be innovated as the general market design has to be considered but it is well accepted by the consumers. The device cannot be called massive with its height being six point six inches and the thickness being only point five inch. The tablet has better usability in the landscape mode rather than the portrait mode and some consumers complain about certain downloaded data not functioning in the portrait mode.
The Xoom has one big deficiency which is it cannot be charged unless it is switched off. The front facing camera is situated at the dead centre of the two logos of Motorola and Verizon. The two volume controlling buttons are located on the higher left hand edge of the body of the Xoom and the external memory card slots are also situated around the volume controls. The dock sensors and the micro USB jack ports are situated together on the bottom. The power or sleep button is located weirdly beside the flash and the camera lens. The Xoom has higher resolution and larger display than the iPad. The aspect ratio of the Xoom is also different from the iPad, the former feeling a little taller or longer. Some people might feel the usage of the portrait mode a little uncomfortable due to the dimensions but it is definitely not too bad to break the deal. The pixel density is a little poor and suffers in the competition. The audio is pretty clear at the moderate volume level. Increase in the volume created indistinct sounds like distortions in the notification tones, ringtones etc.
